“According to United Nations survey Zimbabwe is the most Educated nation in Africa, first of its kind to remove a tyrant in a bloodless manner, according to United nations secretary general it needs to go in guiness book of records.”
by Zambian Observer
It is very difficult to take as true a notion that our society houses intellectuals, educated people because there is clearly nothing as physical evidence or action to substantiate that Zambians are fairly educated people.
Of course possessing this and that academic qualification doesn’t really prove that one is educated and this was vividly illustrated by Henry Kanyanta Sosala- The Chitimukulu in his article. A Critical Analysis of the Imperialists Driven Constitution†published by various media houses sometime in 2015.Â
The Chitimukulu wrote:
‘On the face value, it seems a lot of Zambians are very highly educated and in fact 80% of educated Zambians of whatever level refer to themselves as intellectuals, geniuses, philosophers etc. However, to me it appears that the greatest amount of intelligence exists in that society where people are best able to defend their rights and their liberties as against those who are desirous to undermining them. In fact education has its main function that is the boosting up of knowledge of the people, but mere theorization and sermon devoid of practical base bears no fruit. The central motive behind education is to fulfill the needs of a particular society. And therefore knowledge and especially at this critical period in Africa, which does not come down to try and break the vicious cycle in a peasant’s life, no matter how brilliant is an illusion. Education will only prove valuable when we grasp its essence and properly apply it to our daily realities. It is not the acquisition of knowledge, but the application of knowledge that counts’
What have we benefited from the so-called education of those who claim to be intellectuals in society?
Zambia houses the scariest social and economic statistics, despite possess a number of money-spinning resources, which could have been a source of opulence if managed well.
Life expectancy for men stands at 49 years while for women is at 50 years and out of 17 million people, 60 % of the population lives in abject poverty below the poverty line while 42 % are extremely impoverished and hungry. This population is projected to grow to 50 million by 2050- one can imagine the problems that our country will have.
The prevalence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) among adults stands at 14.3%. Our country’s literacy level stands at 55.3 %.
These are statistics that have been hovering around the same grades for the past decade or so, with virtually no significant improvement whatsoever. We wouldn’t have these alarming statistics if our country had educated people because; it is the intellectuals who are supposed to rid its people from such a hell of living.
We have a good number of professors and those holding masters degrees, doctorates in this and that field yet; there is nothing practical that such people have developed as remedy of societal problems in their fields. In fact, most of the people can barely remember the last subjects of the qualification they hold – their acquisition of those qualifications was not intend to play a significant part in solving their own society’s tribulations but all for a huge pay in the companies they work for.
What is very sad is, most of those who claim are educated people are only good at crafting smart ways to steal from the less privileged and illiterate people of our society. The pandemic of corruption has been mostly exacerbated by the same so-called educated people. These are the same who are involved in all sorts of crooked ways of avoiding paying taxes in their own countries and placing their monies, which are proceeds of all sorts of criminality, in tax havens as we have seen Hakainde Hichilema has done by whisking away his monies to other countries.
Somehow our country lost it’s patriotism was hastily replaced by treachery life now is about me and my family and close ally alone. We have a task as a people to rectify the status quo which comprises a bunch of all sorts of crooks who go to school only to use their acquired knowledge to create more problems of our country.
We believe the task lies in the hands of young people, because it is very difficult to point at any single elderly person who holds scruples in our country, both from private and public service.
Adolf Hitler once said,
‘I am a firmly convinced today that, generally speaking, it is in youth that men lay the essential groundwork of their creative thought, wherever that creative thought exists. I make a distinction between the wisdom of age – which can only arise from the greater profundity and foresight that are based on the experiences of a long life – and the creative genius of youth, which blossoms out in thought and ideas with inexhaustible fertility, without being able to put these into practice immediately , because their very superabundance. These furnish the building materials and plans for the future; and it is from them that age takes the stones and builds the edifice, unless the so-called wisdom of the years may have smothered the creative genius of youth’
Youthful people need to realize that this country awaits for them now forget the lies that youths are future leaders. There will be no future for young people to lead because the future is being destroyed by dogs today.
